Sojang, YouTuber accused of defaming and spreading misinformation by BTS’s V and Jungkook, denies committing any crime against the idols
This Friday, the 23rd, during the first hearing of the compensation process involving V and Jungkookfrom BTS, YouTuber Sojang stated that the content posted on his channel about the two idols cannot be considered a crime.
According to BigHit Music, the record label that manages the careers of the BTS members, “Sojang spread and reproduced false facts and controversial issues for profit,” to which the YouTuber responded:
While we acknowledge the production of the video itself, considering the method and content, it is merely an opinion and not defamation through the disclosure of false information. Sojang claims that the content is not false; and even if it appears false, they do not consider it a crime since it was created in the public interest. They also argue that it does not rise to the level of violation of personal rights.”
The conflict between Sojang and the members of BTS has been going on since 2021, when a fan of the boy group posted one of the channel’s appealing and unfounded content on the platform Weverse. Since then, not only them, but other K-pop groups and artists have also sued Sojang, including Xiuminfrom EXO, Jang Wonyoungfrom IVE, and Kang Danielcurrent soloist and former Wanna One.
So far, the case involving Jungkook and V is still ongoing. If they win the case, the compensation amount will be approximately ₩90 million Won (around R$372,407.40).
