Suga to have his military service period investigated by Military Governance Office after electric scooter incident
According to the Chosun Ilbo newspaper, South Korea’s Human Resources Administration, which includes the Military Governance Office, will investigate the current role of Sucksfrom BTS, as a social worker during his mandatory military service period.
Due to a shoulder injury resulting from a traffic accident in 2012, Sucks is fulfilling his military obligations as a social worker, not as an active soldier. Because of this, the investigation aims to determine whether there was any type of preferential treatment or any violation of the rules.
Furthermore, the request for the investigation came after a South Korean civic group publicly demanded an investigation into the idol due to the controversy involving driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol:
We demand that Suga be investigated for his work as a social worker and that there be strict punishment if the investigation finds any violations. Suga drove under the influence of alcohol despite having the responsibility to serve as a social worker. It is hard not to believe that Suga failed to fulfill his responsibility after drinking and that there was no preferential treatment.”
During the morning of this Friday, 23rd, Sucks appeared in person at a police station to provide clarification after the controversy, which occurred at the beginning of August. Upon arriving at the location, the idol spoke briefly with the South Korean press, expressing regret for the situation; see:
First of all, I am deeply sorry. I am truly reflecting on having greatly disappointed many fans and many people. I will diligently submit to the investigation. Once again, I am deeply sorry.”
