In an interview before his military enlistment, Suga revealed what moment he believes was the turning point in BTS’s career. Find out!
Even on hiatus due to military service, BTS remains one of the most influential boy groups today. This is because, despite being away from the stage, all the releases previously prepared by the members continue to be hugely successful, and reach the top of the international music charts.
However, the reality of the group was not always like this. This is because when RM, V, Jimin, Jin, J-Hope, Jungkook and Sucks debuted in 2013, BigHit Entertainment (now BigHit Music), the company responsible for their formation to this day, was not the great powerhouse we know today.
In fact, at that time, the agency was considered small, did not have many resources and was not part of the famous “Big 3”, the group of companies considered references in k-pop and the biggest in the industry, made up of YG Entertainment, SM Entertainment and JYP Entertainment.
For years, the members of the group have had to endure many challenging conditions. In the beginning, for example, the artists’ dormitory was not the best, and the stars shared a room with three bunk beds and a small single bed.
After a lot of effort and willpower, BTS managed to achieve their first big hit: the 2015 track “I NEED U”, title track of the album “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1”.
Despite being an important song for the artists and their fans, ARMYs, Sucks revealed in an interview with VOGUE Japan in 2023 that, for him, the turning point in his career was another. In the conversation, the rapper highlights that, throughout his 10-year career, he has managed to fulfill almost all of his dreams, even knowing that the seven of them will continue to make music together and will remain “on stage for a long time”.
Soon after, Yoongi (real name of Sucks), highlights that, for him “The biggest turning point was my first visit to the Billboard Awards in 2017”.
It is worth remembering that, that year, BTS made their first appearance at a music awards ceremony in the United States, in addition to taking home the award for “Best Social Artist”. With this achievement, the septet, which was taking important steps in its international career, made history as the first K-pop group to win an award at the Billboard Awards.
