In a recent interview, director James Cameron explained the meaning behind the official title of ‘Avatar 3’, revealed during D23
Last weekend, during the first day of D23, Disney’s main convention to announce the big news from its studio and brands, the official title for the third film in the “Avatar” franchise, directed by James Cameron: “Avatar: Fire and Ash”, or “Avatar: Fire and Ashes” in free translation.
In a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Cameron explained that the name of the new film refers to the part of the story that will be presented.
“Fire can represent hatred, violence, trauma, a possible misuse of power. The ashes represent the consequences of all that energy, which is mourning and having to live with what you did,” said the filmmaker.
It is worth remembering that, previously, James had already commented in an interview with 20 Minutes that “Avatar 3” would explore a new people of Pandora: the ash clan, addressing a dark side of the Na’vi that has not yet been presented.
“I want to show the Na’vis from a different perspective, because so far I’ve only shown their good sides,” the director said in the conversation. “In the first films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vis examples. In Avatar 3, we’re going to do the opposite.”
“Avatar: Fire and Ash” is scheduled to premiere in theaters on December 19, 2025. So far, the film’s synopsis has not yet been released.
