“Liam: Obviously they’ve been heavily influenced by your dad, like ‘Dynamite’, the choreography was heavily influenced by MJ. One of your recent songs, ‘Butter’, starts with ‘smooth like butter, like a criminal undercover’. You could hear that ‘Smooth Criminal’ reference there (…) How does it feel to see a group as big as them paying homage to your dad in such a cool way, but doing it in their own way? Does that make you emotional?
Prince: Their music kind of transcends culture (…) It’s really interesting to see them, and when I see that level of influence, which came through my father, it’s really cool how they show how they respect and honor my father’s honor and legacy. It’s really gratifying and touching to see that they have so much love and respect for him. […] It’s really cool to see that my dad was a trendsetter and you can see how they’re continuing those trends but also adapting them to the modern era and doing it their own way. It’s really cool to continue that creative flow,” they said.
