Naming a child is certainly not an easy task — after all, this will be the name they will be known by for the rest of their life. At this point, while some choose names they think are pretty, others decide based on their meaning, or even follow the wishes of older people.
The last option, in fact, was what happened with Felixmember of Stray Kids, who had his name in Korean, Yongbokchosen by his grandfather — but which apparently did not please his mother at all.
Crying for six months
In July 2024, Felixmade a special appearance on the channel “Jewel Box”, presented by Hong Seok Chun on YouTube. At the time, the presenter was accompanied by Ddol Ddolwith both being surprised by the idol’s beauty right from the start.
Right at the beginning of the conversation, Ddol Ddol commented on the artist’s full name, combining Korean with English: “Our Felixyour full name is Felix Yongbok Lee. If expressed in Korean, it would be Lee Felix Yongbok?”.
The Stray Kids member confirms the information, and reveals that he received the Yongbok of his grandfather, being questioned by Seok Chun if it was true that his mother cried because he was named that way — something that actually happened.
“My mom originally had a name that came to mind. Yeah, she wanted to give me a modern name, but my grandfather said he should give me that name. So apparently my mom cried for six months,” the singer explained.
Ddol Ddol then comments that, despite Yongbok not be the modern name that the mother of Felix I would like it, it suits the idol by giving him a simpler appearance.
“He has a princely feel and looks luxurious, but his name is Yongbok, which makes him look a bit like a country bumpkin. It gives the feeling that ‘Lee Yongbok is also human,’ right?” he commented.
