On the Magical Rewind podcast, the former Disney Channel casting chief revealed that Zendaya auditioned for “Descendants” several times.
Have you ever imagined the “Descendants” franchise with the participation of Zendaya? Well, that almost happened, according to a statement made by Cornela Frameformer head of casting at Disney Channel, during his appearance on the Magical Rewind podcast.
During the conversation, Frame says that the former protagonist of “No Ritmo” really wanted to be part of the cast, and even did several tests, but was not approved.
“She auditioned for the Descendants cast several times, and even back then we knew she was a big star. Zendaya really wanted to be a part of our cast, but it just didn’t happen for her,” Cornela said.
It is worth remembering that, at the time when preparations were taking place for the first “Descendants” film, released in 2015, Zendaya was still at Disney, where she was the star of the series “KC Agent”. However, despite not having been approved in the franchise about the children of some of the most remarkable characters in the universe created by Walt Disneyshortly after, the actress landed her role in “Spider-Man”, which was responsible for boosting her career.
“Now that I think about it, I imagine Spider-Man was happening at about the same time. Things happen for a reason, right?” Cornela asks. “Sometimes you lose something you really want, and something else comes along that you didn’t expect. Zendaya put a lot of effort into her auditions, but we went in a different direction.”
