While most of the attention at the Oscars was on when actor Will Smith hit comedian Chris Rock, what happened next also hit a rough note.
In a now deleted topic on Twitter, producer Joseph Patel criticized Smith and called him selfish for stealing his moment in the next category – Best Documentary -. He also crushes Rock how he presented it.
The winner was “Summer of the Soul,” a thriller about the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, and the Oscar went to director Amir “Questlov” Thompson and producers Patel, Robert Favolent and David Dinerstein. Rock introduced them as “Questlove” and “Four White Boys”.
Patel said he didn’t hear Rock say it at the time, but said it later.
“What the hell ?????” Patel tweeted, adding:
Patel said he could joke, and then called Rock’s destructive performance “stupid and disrespectful behavior.”
“So I’m angry,” he wrote. “Angry with Will Smith. Chris Rock is angry. Mad at me. Angry at Amir. Anger for my fellow directors ”.
Patel also explains why he later removed the subject:
