After all, what is Lilo and Nani’s last name?

Did you know that, in ‘Lilo & Stitch’, Lilo and Nani’s real last name is discreetly revealed? Find it out!

In 2002, exactly 22 years ago, Disney released the animation “Lilo & Stitch”, a film that follows Lilo, a little Hawaiian girl who lives with her older sister, Nani, and decides to adopt a puppy — but is surprised to discover that, in fact, the pet was a genetically modified alien who was condemned and fled to Earth, where together they live several funny adventures and a great friendship.

Considered one of the great classics of the studio founded by Walt Disneythe feature film, directed by Dean DeBlois It is Chris Sandershad a budget of around US$80 million, according to information shared by the Business Insider portal, and raised just over US$273 million.

Even though it was a huge success, even having a sequel, “Lilo & Stitch 2 — Stitch Deu Defeito”, from 2005, and two spin-offs, entitled “Stitch! The Movie” (2003) and “Leroy & Stitch” (2006), many fans still have some doubts about the production, such as the surname of the protagonist sisters.

During the plot, at no point is the surname of Lilo and Nani openly mentioned, who have lived together since losing their parents in a car accident during one of the biggest storms in Hawaii. However, anyone who thinks that the information is not present in the film, or simply does not exist, is mistaken.

Easter egg

The sisters’ surname appears discreetly, like an Easter egg, on the animal adoption license that they sign when they decide to take their “dog” Stitch home, where we can see the youngest daughter’s full name: Lilo Pelekai.

According to Business Insider, the name follows the theme of the film and is 100% Hawaiian inspired. This is because “Pele” refers to the goddess of fire and volcanoes in Hawaii, while “Kai” means sea water in the Hawaiian language.

At the end of the film, when Lilo presents the adoption license to the Grand Councilor, leader of the United Galactic Federation who was trying to take Stitch away, it is also possible to see other small Easter eggs in the text.
