As part of the promotion of the documentary “SUGA: Road to D-Day” on Disney+, the BTS member revealed his favorite films on the platform
In April 2023, as part of the promotion of the documentary “SUGA: Road to D-Day”, Suga, member of BTS, revealed through a video on the Disney Plus Korea YouTube channel his favorite productions on the platform. Like the other members of the boy group, he has a refined taste for productions that go beyond music, presenting three choices that also involve the idol’s personal side. Find out what they are in the text below!
1. Viva — Life is a Party
The story of “Coco”, or “Viva — A Vida é uma Festa” in Portuguese, follows the protagonist Miguel Rivera, a 12-year-old boy who lives inspired by the late singer Ernesto de la Cruz and dreams of being a musician. However, his family does not approve of this dream, as his great-grandfather cursed his lineage after abandoning his wife to pursue his career in the musical world. While Miguel continues trying hard to imitate Ernesto, he ends up in the Land of the Dead, a kind of underworld where he will make great discoveries and try to convince his family that music is something good.
Suga says the animation touched his heart, as it contains messages related to trying new things and chasing your dreams. The idol also mentions that, like Miguel, he also had to leave his comfort zone to try new things while producing the album “D-Day”, which gave him inspiration to write the songs; Check out the animation trailer:
2. Soul
In the Pixar film “Soul”, we follow Joe, a high school music teacher who is passionate about jazz but whose life is not going according to his plans. One day, after receiving a call with an offer he couldn’t refuse, he ends up falling into a manhole, where he travels to another reality to help a person find their passion, thus discovering the true meaning of life.
With its simple yet philosophical narrative of finding happiness in the simple things in life, embodied in this context through piano and jazz, “Soul” stood out as a relatable and inspiring story for Suga.
3. Life of Pi
The third and last place on the list of Suga goes to “Life of Pi”, one of the films that stood out and won awards in the last decade. In the story, young Pi and his family decide to move from India to Canada after giving up the zoo they managed, so they could sell the animals to restart their lives. However, the cargo ship they were traveling on ended up sinking, leaving only Pi, a lifeboat and some animals, including the Bengal tiger Richard Parker, with whom he develops a connection.
Suga strongly recommended the production to viewers, as he believes the story discusses personal growth through unexpected circumstances. He also showed appreciation for the high-quality special effects, which portrayed the beauty of nature throughout the film.
