Shrek’s donkey has health problems in real life

Donkey who served as inspiration for the creation of a character in the ‘Shrek’ franchise is facing illness and needs donations; understand!

Perry, the real donkey who inspired the creation of the ‘Shrek’ character, is in need of help from franchise fans. This is because the little animal, who is 30 years old, is facing health problems due to his old age and needs donations to cover the costs of the necessary treatment.

It turns out that the average age of an animal of this species is 30 to 35 years, and it is at this stage that diseases such as arthritis and equine Cushing’s syndrome (endocrine disorder that causes hormonal problems) appear, which are those faced by Perry.

The animal’s treatment and other expenses cost an average of 40 thousand dollars, as explained by the caregiver Jenny Kiratli in an interview with The Washington Post and, in addition to Perry, two other donkeys, Buddy and April, who live with him in California, in the city of Palo Alto, on a donkey farm in Barron Park called Park Barron Donkeys, also need the same care.

Fundraising through community donations for Perry’s cause was approved by the Palo Alto City Council in May, but, with a limit of $10,000 and open until June 23, the local campaign has raised half of that amount to date. .

More about Perry

According to the Aventuras na História portal, Perry was photographed by the Pacific Data Images team in 1999 so that animators could study the animal and adapt its movements in the best way for an animation with no details yet revealed. The company was acquired by DreamWorks SKG the following year, and in 2001, “Shrek” was released.

Even though Donkey became one of the favorite characters and the title became a huge success — even receiving the first Oscar in the Best Animated Feature category —, at the time, only 75 dollars were donated to the pasture and Perry was not even mentioned in the credits of the plot.
