Will “Gravity Falls” return? According to Disney’s executive vice president of television animation, Meredith Robertsin an interview with The Direct (via Omelete), this could really happen!
This because Meredith revealed to the portal that, currently, the studio is negotiating with Alex Hirschcreator of the series, a possible revival of the beloved animation.
“We are talking to Alex [Hirsch]. He is about to publish a book with Disney about the project. And he also made some short films. So never say never.”, revealed the executive.
With just two seasons, “Gravity Falls” came to an end in 2013, by decision of the creator himself. As reported by Jovem Nerd, the announcement was made at the time by Alex on Tumblr, where he said:
“The first thing to know is that the program is not being cancelled, it is being finalized. This was 100% my choice and something I decided a long time ago. I’ve always thought of Gravity Falls as a finite series about an epic summer, a series with a beginning, middle and end. There are so many series that go on and on until they lose that initial shine, or mysteries that are canceled before they have a chance to be explained.”
Hirsch continued his statement by stating that “I wanted Gravity Falls to be a mystery that had a real answer, an adventure with a real climax, and an ending that gave closure to the characters I care about so much. This is very unusual for television and a big experiment, and Disney has been very supportive of this.”
