Bhutan’s sovereign has released new photos alongside his baby princess, who was born last September.
The youngest queen of the world celebrated her 34th birthday. On the occasion of his birthday this Tuesday, June 4, the Sovereign of Bhutan, Jetsun Pema, did a photo session with his daughter, Princess Sonam Yangden, who was born in September 2023.
Two photos with descriptive text were posted. “We congratulate His Majesty on the 34th birthday of our beloved Gyaltsuen.” In these photos, mother and daughter pose at Lingkana Palace in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. The latter wear big smiles in a relaxing environment filled with roses. In the second photo, their dog has joined them and is calmly standing at their feet.
The youngest queen in the world
Jetsun Pema, born on June 4, 1990, is the youngest queen in the world. Hailing from a family of Bhutanese aristocracy, he is still in his thirties the only sovereign in an effective kingdom.
In May 2011, at the age of 21, Jetsun Pema married the “Dragon King” Jigme Khesar Namgil Wangchuck, the 5th monarch of Bhutan. “Although he is young, he is warm and kind in heart and character,” the latter announced at the end of the union with him. Before proceeding. “These qualities, together with the wisdom that comes with age and experience, will make him a great servant of the nation.”
After marrying Jetsun Pema, the king also declared that she would be the only woman in his life. A reassuring statement as polygamy is allowed in Bhutan.
Since then, she, whom Paris Match has nicknamed “Himalayan Kate Middleton”, has become a mother three times. The Bhutanese royal couple have two sons and one daughter: Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel (age 7) and Prince Jigme Ugyen (age 3). In September 2023, the couple welcomed Princess Sonam Youngden. Queen Jetsun Pema and her birthday photos therefore allow the whole world to discover the face of the new little princess, whose appearance has been rare since she was born 9 months ago.
