Even though they come from noble families or are simply endowed with courage, some characters are not considered official Disney princesses; find out which ones!
When we talk about the princesses of Disney, the first thought that comes to our mind is the proximity they have to royalty. Acts that demonstrate courage can also fit the title, as Tiana, Mulan and Moana, for example, meet both requirements.
However, there are some characters who, even though they were born into noble families or sacrificed themselves for the greater good, are not considered official Disney princesses. With this in mind, RECREIO separated five of these characters who deserved the title of studio princesses; check out!
1. Megara, from “Hercules”
Mégara was not born into royalty, but her courage and determination make her a character who honors the title. She is the perfect model of the woman who wants to be the heroine of her own story, and that is reason enough to make her a princess.
Her vulnerability is also impenetrable, which makes her surround herself with a powerful barrier that only the strongest demigod could break down. Hercules was lucky enough to be the only one to overcome this challenge and win Meg’s love.
2. Anna and Elsa, from “Frozen”
Anna and Elsa, daughters of the king and queen of Arendelle, won over the public through the success of “Frozen”. However, none of them are considered an official Disney princess. Given that they both come from a noble family and demonstrate acts of courage defending Hans’s kingdom throughout the film, it is a wonder that they are not part of the official group of princesses.
However, following the feature film, Anna became queen of Arendelle in Elsa’s place, after her sister abdicated the throne. So perhaps the studio’s decision not to make them princesses was deliberate, knowing that there would be some change in royal titles.

3. Alice, from “Alice in Wonderland”
The classic “Alice in Wonderland” based on the novels by Lewis Carrolintroduces us to young Alice, who one day falls down a rabbit hole and discovers a magical and chaotic land called “Wonderland”.
Alice does not have any title or act of bravery that highlights her as a princess, but she is often confused with one, as she occasionally appears alongside the official princesses. But, considering her curiosity about Wonderland and her courage to explore the unknown, Alice would easily fit the role.

4. Anastasia, from “Anastasia (1997)”
Based on a true story, the 1997 classic “Anastasia” also names the protagonist. The young woman, who holds the forgotten title of Grand Duchess of Russia, is extremely determined and selfless, proving that it is not necessary to be noble to have a kind heart.
Even though Anastasia has been a princess since she was born, and meets all the requirements imposed by Disney, she is not considered an official princess of the studio because she was simply not chosen to be part of the main group. The decision is surprising, considering the film’s success over the years and the protagonist’s enduring popularity.

5. Giselle, from “Enchanted”
To the surprise of many, Giselle is also not considered an official Disney princess. The story of the protagonist of “Encantada”, which was voiced and played by the actress Amy Adams in 2007, it presents some elements of other fairy tales, as she dreams of true love’s kiss and suffers from the treatment of her future stepmother.
As much as the character deserved the title, Giselle cannot become an official Disney princess. To do so, the studio would need to guarantee lifetime rights to the face of Amy Adams, which would limit the actress in other roles. But both the character and the film are one of Disney’s biggest successes after the turn of the century, where Giselle embodies the kindness and gentleness that only a true princess could have.
