The eye of Marion Dupuis. Worn by Zendaya in the movie Challengers, “tenniscore” fashion floods social networks. But underneath the pleated micro-circles and slouchy sweatshirts, spring’s sexiest trend is on display.
It’s weird, at the moment all I see around me are super stylish girls who all look like they’re taking private tennis lessons. When I say around me, I’m talking about social media, because these young beauties in pleated micro-circles, neat polo shirts, and competitive sneakers aren’t running down the cobblestone streets yet. But on TikTok, it’s clear that dressing up as Chris Evert has become the most followed challenge of the moment, with #tennisgirl winning an incredible 948 million views at the time of writing.

Sexual training
This new sporting spirit obviously did not fall from the sky, the approach of the Olympic Games in Paris has given new momentum to the movement. But it’s clearly Zendaya who started this tough tennis score with a thunderous backhand. In the movie Challengers Directed by Lucas Guadagnino (released April 24), he stars as Tashi Duncan, a young American racket prodigy caught in a highly sensual love triangle between two former tennis players. Zendaya’s looks are by Jonathan Anderson, Lowe’s designer prodigy who wows the fashion world with every show she does. And one thing is certain: between them, they give tennis an extremely sexual charge and an unrivaled “hot” factor.

The American actress, a Gen Z icon, also wore her player uniform while promoting the film in, among other things, a pleated Loewe mini dress accessorized with (real) tennis ball heels that “broke” the internet. Her neat appearance that reflected this strict discipline in well-ironed clothes didn’t stop us from lingering over her long, tapered legs and low-cut draped capes. This sportswear aesthetic with its slightly old-fashioned erotic charm is also in the heyday of Californian label Sporty&Rich, which has made it its trademark. Looking at their Instagram account, you will understand… Do you greet your teammate under a neat skirt?

Polo shirt and pleated miniskirt
One thing is certain. twisting the aesthetic of tennis by injecting it with a good dose of sexiness can only make this beautifully luxurious sport even more appealing. Fashion designers didn’t wait for Challengers to introduce their own version of the seductive tennis girl. From 2022, Jacquemus, for his first joint capsule with Nike, offered backless dresses, bralettes and pleated skirts inspired by the world of tennis with undisguised glamor potential. Miuccia Prada also, at Miu Miu, re-released crazy versions of the racket player in the same year with a macro skirt and cropped polo shirt that definitely revealed the thighs and navel. The same is back this summer, a little dressier but still just as sexy, closer to the great 70s era of Playboy than today’s Tennis Magazine. Will we soon see him off the courts of Flushing Meadows, Roland Garros or Wimbledon onto the pavements of New York, London or Paris? To be continued…
