Do you know what the Beast’s real name is from ‘Beauty and the Beast’? Discover the answer behind this big question!
In 1991, Disney released the animation “Beauty and the Beast”, an adaptation of a French novel that had its first version published in 1740 by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve with a much darker story, and rewritten years later by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumontwhich presented a much more childish plot.
The film follows Bela, a sweet young dreamer, passionate about reading who, to ensure her father’s safety, ends up trapped in a castle inhabited by a fearsome Beast who was the victim of a spell and needs to find true and reciprocal love to return to be a prince.
Since its release until the present day, a big question remains in the minds of fans: after all, what is the Beast’s real name?
Nameless prince?
Popularly, many people refer to the prince as Adam, due to rumors that the animators and production team used to call him that way, as revealed by Paige O’HaraBela’s official voice actress, in some interviews (via ScreenRant).
Furthermore, in some licensed products, such as the 1998 game “The D Show”, the character appears with the same name — despite the title not involving Disney in its development. Another point raised is the prince appearing with the name Adam in a work present at Disney World’s Port Orleans Riverside Resort.
However, even with different evidence, the truth is that, at no point in the film, is Beast’s real name mentioned. Likewise, Disney never officially commented on the matter.
The closest thing to a pronouncement that has ever been recorded appears on the DVD and Blu-ray versions of “Beauty and the Beast,” where the producer Don Hahnand the directors Kirk Wise It is Gary Trousdale state that “we didn’t realize it until we actually got there, but when Bella arrived and called the Beast—we said, ‘He has no name.'”
Already Glen Keane, an animation supervisor, revealed to a fan during the 2013 D23 Expo that he “never referred to him as anything other than Beast” (via ComicBook). In other interviews, Keane he also pointed out that, if they were to create a name for the Beast, it would not be Adam, but something in French that would be more in line with the cultural setting of the production.
