Halfway between dance, cinema and live cartoons, the choreographer explores the world of burlesque through more than 100 costumes in his exhibition “Planète(s) Découflé” at CNCS in Moulins.
Moulin’s CNCS (National Center for Costume and Stage) in Alliers, a jewel of our heritage, is housed in a former 17th-century military barracks. Since opening in 2006, it can boast of attracting more than one million visitors and nearly thirty exhibitions. The next one is dedicated to Philippe Decouffle and offers the chance to immerse yourself in space between dance, cinema and live cartoons through hundreds of costumes.
Each performance of the choreographer, Codex/Decodex/Tricodex has OctopusFrom WieBo to Tutti, explores worlds both burlesque and fantasy. During the four decades of his career, he has always surrounded himself with body-enhancing artists. The designers of her dresses are called: Philippe Guillotel, Laurence Chalou, Jean Malo or Charlie Le Mindou. Philippe Decoufle and his accomplices boast one of the most beautiful wardrobes in modern dance. From the main lounge, visitors discover Shazam’s iconic bubble dress.

The course explores the different planets as many worlds: Anatomical, Micro/Macro/Kaleidoscopic, Shadows. Philippe Decouffle’s video projections and drawings, somewhere between a mood board and a scrapbook, round it out. The last room is an apotheosis. featuring nearly thirty of the most iconic costumes from the Albertville Olympics. Then we think about the mantra of the creator. “I don’t like to do anything artificial. I need beauty, I need to cry when I do something. I want to be touched and touch people.”
