An imbalance of the “second brain” can have many effects on the health of the digestive system, but not only that. On his Instagram account, the gastroenterologist makes a list and gives his advice to fix it.
Digestive problems, fatigue, bad mood… What if there was an imbalance of intestinal microbiota? Also called the “second brain,” this conglomeration of microorganisms in the digestive system is essential for good health. Therefore, on the contrary, an imbalance of intestinal flora can cause discomfort. In a post posted online on his Instagram account on May 22, gastroenterologist Julien Scanzi gives the signs of this imbalance.
Impaired transport, bloating…
Among the first signs mentioned by the doctor, we find digestive disorders. First, disturbed transit (diarrhea or constipation) should be given special attention. Excess gas or bloating can also alert you to the state of our microbiota.

The consequences of intestinal flora imbalance can also be manifested in the immune system. So frequent infections can put fleas in the ear. Chronic fatigue and mood disorders can also alert us to the good health of our microbiota. After all, an imbalance can make it harder to lose weight.
How to balance your microbiota?
To redress the imbalance, Julien Scanzi reminds us that it’s important to take care of what’s on your plate. And for good reason, what we ingest can feed our “good” gut bacteria. To do this, we make sure to consume fiber every day, along with fruits, vegetables, oily seeds, and even legumes. Other tips given by the specialist: limit your consumption of highly processed or highly sugary foods. Also, consuming fermented foods, such as kefir (fruit or milk), kombucha, or lactic acid vegetables, helps maintain microbiota balance.
The doctor also explains that antibiotics should be avoided and limited to strictly medical necessity. Finally, regular physical activity or relaxing activities (or both) can promote good gut health.
