Celebrated on May 9th, Goku Day can be celebrated by DRAGON BAL fans by marathoning incredible content on MAX
Next Thursday, May 9th, Goku Day is celebrated worldwide. With this in mind, Max will participate in this celebration with a special program, bringing “DRAGON BALL KAI” and “DRAGON BALL Z KAI: FINAL EPISODES” as highlights on the platform . On the date, the public will be able to relive several moments of this iconic and central character in the successful “DRAGON BALL” franchise.
What is Goku Day?
Goku Day is a special occasion dedicated to the legendary “DRAGON BALL” character Goku, created by Akira Toriyama in the mid-1980s as the protagonist of the manga, which was soon adapted to other formats such as anime, films and games.
The date of May 9th was established as the official day of celebrations around the world because in Japanese the numbers 5 and 9 (equivalent to the date 5/9, that is, May 9th in Latin American countries) are pronounced phonetically as ” go” and “ku”, words that together sound similar to “Goku”, the name of the beloved character. Although the celebration already existed on social media, it was made official in 2015 by the Japan Anniversary Association, after receiving numerous requests from the public and TOEI Animation, the studio behind the successful anime.
With this in mind, Goku Day celebrations will feature diverse content, such as “DRAGON BALL Z KAI” and “DRAGON BALL Z KAI: FINAL EPISODES”, series that explore Goku’s life years after his triumph over Piccolo.
It is worth remembering that “DRAGON BALL Z KAI” are the episodes remastered by Toei Animation in 2009 of the entire “Z” franchise, released in 1989. Max, the first season of “DRAGON BALL Z KAI”, has 98 episodes already available in the platform’s catalog. The shipment has the following synopsis: “Goku leads a peaceful life, but the tranquility ends when Raditz arrives on Earth, leading Goku and Piccolo to unite to save the planet.”
