After all, what does Nala’s name mean?

Discover how the name of Nala, a character introduced in “The Lion King” (1994), reveals details of her journey in the film

In “The Lion King” (1994), the public was able to learn the story of the young lion Simba, who, after witnessing the death of his father, Mufasa, ends up leaving his home, living in exile until he discovers the truth behind that fateful day: his uncle, Scar, was the one who orchestrated the ambush that ended up taking his father’s life in order to become the new King of the Savanna, which makes him, as an adult, return to the Pride Lands to recover the power.

Still, to remove Scar from the position of royalty, Simba will need help and, for that, he can count on his friends, Timon and Pumbaa, as well as Nala, his childhood friend who, in her own name, carries the meaning of his role in Simba’s life and the importance he plays to those who live in the Pride Lands.

According to the ScreenRant portal, the name Nala has roots in several African cultures and, in Swahili, has several meanings, such as “lion”, “queen”, “success” and “present”, all of them connecting with the story of Nala and your bright future.

This is because, more than Simba’s best friend, Nala is responsible for helping to save the Pride Lands from the terrible reign established by Scar and his army of hyenas, as the lioness rebels and runs away to meet Simba, so that he returns to King’s Rock and regains the title of king that always belonged to him, freeing the savannah from Scar’s clutches.
