The K-pop idol who grew up in Brazil but many didn’t know

In recent interviews, a great K-pop idol revealed that he grew up in Brazil, shocking many international fans. Find out who it is!

Next month, Mark Tuan, from GOT7, will perform his first show in Brazil. The idol has a single performance scheduled for May 30th, in São Paulo, at Cine Jóia. Tickets are still available through the Sympla website, with prices ranging from R$180 to R$500.

Mark will be the fourth member of GOT7 to perform in Brazilian lands — following in the footsteps of Jackson, BamBamand the leader Jay B. However, something that shocked many international fans is that the oldest member of the group formed by JYP Entertainment in 2014 has a much greater connection with Brazil than some could imagine.

This because Tuan lived in Brazilian lands for a while, and commented on his experience here in recent interviews with KoreaIN and Quem magazines.

“I was in Brazil in the 2000s, I think, before I came back to the United States. I want to see the country I grew up in, because I don’t have many memories. I will be able to see the fans who always asked me to say ‘hi’ to Brazil in my lives. That’s what I want!”, Mark told Quem.

As for KoreaIN, the idol highlighted that he is very excited for the show, and to return to Brazil after so many years:

“I’m very excited. I grew up in Brazil for a few years and having the possibility to go back to a place I grew up in is really cool. We (GOT7) are always saying ‘Hi, Brazil’, but now I can finally perform there. I know you went to other members’ shows too, but I’m really looking forward to finally seeing our Brazilian fans and performing for them. It’s going to be a fun day.”

In the conversation, Mark He also said that, unfortunately, he doesn’t remember much about the time he lived here, as he was very young. However, he says he has memories of the place where he lived, and of a trip with his parents to a tourist spot in Rio de Janeiro.

“I remember very little. I remember where I used to live, the small communities. I remember going to visit that statue in the middle of the mountains, Christ? I went there with my parents”, recalled the singer, laughing.

The connection of Mark with Brazil also manages to become even more special, as his younger brother, Joey, was born here at a time when the family lived in Brazilian lands. On one of the singer’s birthdays, his mother even shared a photo of the baby idol, where you can see the Portuguese phrase “Happy Birthday, Mark” on his cake.

After his comments in the interviews, some international fans commented that they were surprised by the information. See the reactions!

“He grew up in Brazil????”

“IS THIS THE FIRST TIME I’VE HEARD THAT?”

“I had no idea…”

“Oh???? I keep learning something new every day”

“Oh? I had no idea 😭”

“Sorry what? That’s crazy”

“man, WHAT??? how has this NEVER come up before in 10 years of his career he’s crazy”
