During an interview with Charlotte Rampling for the magazine Madame Figaro On newsstands on April 19, Charlotte Gainsbourg made a stark statement about the whereabouts of her missing loved ones.
“I have three absences. My sister Kate, my father, my mother. The entire first part of my childhood, until the age of 9, there were four of us. Today I am the last among these four. It is very strange. I have an inner life with them. I am neither a believer nor anything else, but my death is part of me,” the 52-year-old actress declared. A statement to which Charlotte Rampling responded. “You have to find your way through this. This suffering forces you. Either sink or climb.’ To which Serge Gainsbourg’s daughter added: “For something to emerge.”

Charlotte Gainsbourg’s existence was marred by these disappearances, all of which were widely reported in the media. In 1991, the actress, then 20 years old, lost her father, Serge Gainsbourg, to a heart attack. 20 years later, in 2013, the actress and singer also had to deal with the death of her half-sister Kate Barry, who tragically died in Paris at the age of 46 after falling from the 4th floor of her Parisian apartment.
