In a recent press conference, director Kelsey Mann revealed the process behind choosing the new emotions for ‘Inside Out 2’
This Wednesday, the 17th, Disney and Pixar revealed the newest poster for their upcoming release “Inside Out 2”, a film that will take us back into the mind of young Riley, presenting some new emotions: Shame, Envy, Boredom and Anxiety . Look!
The arrival of new emotions is probably one of the new features that fans are most excited to see. But, do you know how they were chosen?
New emotions
As reported by the ScreenRant portal, during a press conference, the director Kelsey Mann and the producer Mark Nielsen explained that, originally, the idea was for nine new emotions to be presented in the new film, making Alegria feel “overwhelmed”.
“But my first pass, my first exhibition we did, [haviam] nine emotions. Nine new emotions appeared. I really wanted Alegria to feel overwhelmed by all these new emotions that have come up,” Kelsey said.
Mann, however, reveals that nine emotions seemed too much for the film, and he received a request from the studio to simplify the idea. To do this, he asked for help from Dacher Keltnerspecialist and professor at Berkley, who guided him in focusing on self-conscious emotions, extremely characteristic of adolescence.
According to the filmmaker, the professor explained that “we are programmed at this age to start becoming really self-aware. And in part we do this because when you are a child, your parents and caregivers take care of you. And eventually, you will have to take care of yourself. And this is why we are programmed to push away our parents and caregivers, so that we can become independent people who can take care of ourselves.”
“That’s why you [nessa idade] They care so much about what you all are thinking about each other. ‘How can I fit in? Do You like me?’. You know, it’s all about adapting to this age. And it’s part of our blueprint of who we are, because if you don’t like me, you’ll banish me and I’ll go to the forest and die alone. And that’s why we care so much about what others think of us at this age. And it just kind of turns on and never goes away. You kind of have to manage that, which is a big reason why I’m making this film. So that’s why we ended up going towards the emotions that we have in the film now”, he concluded.
With its premiere scheduled for June 20th in Brazil, “Divert Mind 2” will feature the original English dubbing cast with the participation of Maya Hawke (Stranger Things) as Anxiety; Amy Poehler lending his voice to Alegria, Phyllis Smith returning as Sadness, LewisBlack like anger, Tony Hale giving life to Fear, Liza Lapira like Nojinho, Aya Edibir being Envy, Adèle Exarchopoulos interpreting Boredom and Paulo Walter Hauser like Shame.
