What are BTS’s RM’s biggest fears?

Find out which of the actions that BTS has the habit of carrying out that is capable of causing fear in RM, the group leader!

Whether through interviews with newspapers or magazines, testimonials in documentaries and books, or even through the lyrics of their songs, the group BTS (composed of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V It is Jungkook) is always honest with fans about how they feel, as they always express their doubts, insecurities, pain and happiness with ARMY (as the group’s fandom is called).

Still, this fact, which makes them so human and brings them even closer to their fans, is also the cause of one of their fears. RM, the leader of BTS. The revelation was made by the artist himself, in an interview with GQ Korea (via Koreaboo), when asked about his difficulties and fears.

On the occasion, the idol was asked about the importance of recognizing, accepting, documenting and sharing his fears, when reminded about the reports he provided, in the BTS documentary released in 2020, ‘Break the Silence: The Movie’, and in the track solo ‘Always’, from 2017, about difficult situations he faced, where, in response, he began explaining why he doesn’t follow the example of artists who prefer to be “seen as enigmatic figures”.

“Many celebrities, stars and artists choose mystery, preferring to be seen as enigmatic figures. Maybe it’s because they have a lot of scars or because they don’t want to open up. Personally, though, I think it’s good to share with our fans the good and bad bad, the pros and cons, and the shadows that hang over us.”

Soon after, to exemplify how much talking about feelings can be transformative, RM brought back one of the most complicated moments they faced, also covered in ‘Break the Silence’: the group’s almost disbandment in 2018 due to the pressure they began to feel when going beyond the borders of South Korea and achieving global success, by stating that exposing this group pain can help “make people stronger.”

“From an outsider’s perspective, it may seem like BTS’s success has grown exponentially, but that’s not true. Maybe it wasn’t necessary to reveal that we had thought about breaking up, but confessions can sometimes make people stronger “, he began explaining.

Then, he talked about how these statements can bring the public closer and make them see them in a different way.

“However, we don’t open our hearts right away. Only after the moment has passed and we have processed and identified our feelings do we look back and share a more coherent version of what we went through. In doing so, people realize that we are human too, the that lessens the distance between us. I really believe that we need to open up to a certain extent.”

Even though this action is full of bonuses, RM reveals that there are some burdens that make him scared, since the honesty and exposure of his feelings makes him feel vulnerable and has fear that you will be misunderstood and seen as someone who is easy to put down, or that people will react negatively to your statements.

“But to be honest, it scares me. I’m afraid people will think I’m weak or that these confessions might be seen as weakness and provoke a negative reaction.”

However, RM highlights that, even so, the feeling that remains after opening your heart with ARMY is good, and that care is taken to ensure that these testimonials are given in a mature and professional manner.

“It’s a good feeling. When you turn over a card, you can’t help but turn over the other cards. [risos] In a way, I think it’s right to be honest, rather than hiding the negative and always saying, ‘We’re doing well.’ But the way we confess our fears would have to be mature and professionally ethical.”

Finally, he revealed that there is also a concern about how to convey these feelings, as it is something that can help those who hear them go through similar situations.

“Between books, documentaries, interviews and music, music would be the best medium for us, wouldn’t it? And to do it in such a way that listeners can get something for themselves, just like I did, and then they can apply that to their own lives I always think about what would be the best way to share these things.”
