“We are shocked and saddened by the horrific events that took place in Sydney earlier today. Our thoughts are with all those affected, including the loved ones of the victims and the heroic rescuers who risked their lives to save others,” said the heir to the British throne and his wife. British sovereign Charles III, William’s father, who is also Australia’s head of state, also sent a letter of support. “My wife and I were terribly shocked and horrified to learn of the tragic attack at Bondi (the name of the mall where the attack took place),” he wrote.
The man suspected of the attack was neutralized by a female police officer who shot him in the chest. If the authorities have not ruled out the possibility of terrorists, the identity of the murderer has not yet been revealed. New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb simply noted that it is a 40-year-old man who is already known to law enforcement.
