5 facts from the books that were left out of the films

Discover some facts from the books ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, by author CS Lewis, which remained from the films adapted by Disney

In the mid-2000s, Disney made three adaptations of the renowned “Chronicles of Narnia” franchise, created by the Irish author CS Lewis: “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” (2005), “Prince Caspian” (2008) and “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” (2010).

However, as with other adaptations, many facts from the seven original books ended up being left out of the film versions of this beloved universe.

With this in mind, RECREIO separated a list of five facts from the “Chronicles of Narnia” books that did not appear in the films. Check out!

1. The story of Professor Digory Kirke

The mysterious professor presented in “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” has a much greater importance than many might imagine. This is because, in the books, more specifically in “The Magician’s Nephew”, it is explained that he was the boy who accompanied the creation of Narnia, being one of the first humans to visit the magical kingdom.

2. The real way Lúcia finds her wardrobe

During the first film, Lúcia finds the wardrobe with the ticket to Narnia for the first time while playing hide and seek with her brothers. In the book, the first contact that the youngest Pevensie has with the closet is when she is exploring the house, but does not enter the large closet. Her trip to the magical world happens only in her second contact with the item when, in fact, she is playing with Pedro, Susana and Edmundo.

3. Narnia’s golden years

After the Pevensies’ coronation, the films do not explain what happened in Narnia during the period in which the four brothers ruled. In the books, it is said that Pedro, Susana, Edmundo and Lúcia were in power for 15 years before returning to England, in a period that became known as the “Golden Age of Narnia”.

Among the great achievements is the victory in the battle against the giants of the North who threatened the lives of the Narnians, in addition to defending the neighboring kingdom of Arquelândia, which was being invaded by one of Susana’s suitors, who did not accept being rejected by the queen.

4. Susana didn’t fight

In the films adapted by Disney, Susana plays an important role as an archer, and is always present alongside her brothers during battles. However, this does not happen in the books. On the pages of CS Lewisthe girl does not go to the front lines in wars, and has more skills in areas such as political leadership.

5. The true ending

In total, Disney adapted only three of the seven books in “The Chronicles of Narnia”, and did not have the opportunity to create a film version of the final work, “The Last Battle”. Therefore, the public who followed the saga does not know what happened to Pedro, Susana, Edmundo and Lúcia after the events of “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”.

In the last book, the Pevensies return to Narnia for one last time, even after Aslan instructs them that everyone is too old to return — except Susan. The work states that the older girl lost faith in Narnia, and became a woman who only cares about makeup and social commitments, which is why she ended up not receiving the call to go to the magical world again.

Meanwhile, Pedro, Edmundo, Lucia, alongside other friends from Narnia, receive a vision of King Tirian crying out for help. As they begin their journey to return, they all end up dead in a train accident, which takes them directly to the magical land. There, they find Aslan creating the apocalypse, and summoning the true Narnians to go to Aslan’s Country, a place where they would never suffer again.

When called by the lion, Pedro permanently closes the passage between Narnia and the world of humans, and the brothers live in Aslan’s Country forever, while Susana remains alone in our world.
