The two canceled Snow White films that almost no one knows about

Discover the two films inspired by the universe of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ that were discarded by Disney and almost no one knows

In 1937, the historic premiere of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” took place, the first fully colored animated feature film in the history of world cinema. Inspired by the fairy tale popularized by Brothers Grimmthe plot about the princess is, to this day, one of the most important animations ever released.

Therefore, taking into account its success, many fans have already questioned why Snow White’s story never had its universe expanded with new sequences. However, what some may not know is that this almost happened, and that two productions about the renowned princess were almost released.

Discarded sequences

As reported by the ScreenRant portal, the first was planned by himself Walt Disneyand would be called “Snow White Returns” (“The Return of Snow White”, in free translation), featuring some scenes excluded from the original film.

Through an extra scene present in the diamond version of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, a little more is explained about what the story of the new production would be like. According to the content, the plot would revolve around a visit by Snow White to the dwarves after marrying the prince where, to surprise her, Soneca, Bashful, Feliz, Atchim, Master, Grumpy and Dopey would have decided to build a bed for her.

Second Don Hahn, Disney producer responsible for films such as “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Lion King”, through a video released by The Disney Archives, there is no concrete information about why “Snow White Returns” was discarded. However, the ScreenRant portal states that it was his own decision Walt Disney of not creating new sequels to Snow White, which ended up being respected by the studio after her death in 1966.

On the other hand, the second production inspired by the universe of the first princess appeared 60 years after the original release. This is because, in 2005, DisneyTooon Studios had started a project entitled “The Seven Dwarfs” (“The Seven Dwarfs”, in free translation), directed by Mike Disa and scripted by Evan Spiliotopoulos.

As reported by AnimatedViews (via ScreenRant), the film would be a prequel, set years before the events of the 1937 film, focusing on how the dwarves met, and how they ended up in a cabin in the middle of the forest.

The portal explains that production would begin with Dunga and Zangado going on a mission through the forest, when they meet the other five dwarves. The group, however, was being hunted by a terrible wizard, and began to count on the help of a woman named Narcissa.

At a certain point, the characters discover that, in fact, the big villain was the father of the girl they trusted so much, and that they were both using them to gain access to magical power.

The plot twist of the story happens when Narcissa decides to betray her own father, and imprisons him in a mirror, taking power for herself and revolting against the dwarves, in addition to taking over the throne that belonged to Snow White’s father. Thus, trying to hide, Soneca, Dengoso, Feliz, Atchim, Mestre, Zangado and Dunga start living in a cabin in the middle of the forest.

Initially, the idea of “The Seven Dwarfs” would have been very well accepted by the studio, even starting production, however, everything was canceled in 2006, after Disney bought Pixar.

According to ScreenRant, there are a few reasons why the project was officially scrapped. The first would be the director’s resignation, Mike Disaafter the studio tried to change the story and focus on Dunga, trying to explain the reason for him to stop talking, which would be a scare.

The other reason would be that, after the purchase, John Lasseter, the creative director of Pixar, was also elected creative director of Walt Disney Feature Animation. Thus, because I don’t really like direct-to-video sequences, Lasseter would have canceled a series of DisneyToons projects that were in development — including “The Seven Dwarfs”.
