Last Sunday, the 10th, the film “The Boy and the Crane” became the second Studio Ghibli film to win the “Best Animated Feature” award at the Oscars, the main international cinema award. The production, directed by Hayao Miyazakimarked the renowned filmmaker’s return to cinemas.

The film follows the story of Mahito, an 11-year-old boy who is forced to leave Tokyo after losing his mother, and return to the village where he grew up. Upon settling into his new home with his father, the young man meets a heron who, little by little, helps him understand the world around her.

Over its 39 years of existence, Studio Ghibli has had its works nominated for an Oscar seven times, with its first victory only happening in 2003.
