The King of England said that he was very moved by the words sent to him by the English people after the announcement about cancer.
On Wednesday, February 21, Charles III met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Buckingham Palace. We don’t yet know if the meeting marks a full return to politics for the king, who stopped public speaking after announcing his cancer on February 5 but continued to run the country’s affairs. State behind the scenes. In fact, it’s the first time the two men have seen each other again since news of the sovereign’s health broke in the UK. They exchanged a phone call two weeks ago, but it was more of a preliminary contact than the formal audience the monarch and prime minister traditionally hold each week.
“The country has your back”
In any case, these reunions turned out to be very warm. Upon arrival, Richie Sunak told the king, shaking his hand, that it was “wonderful” to see him in good health. To which the monarch jokingly replied. “Everything is made of mirrors.” The Prime Minister then replied: “We are all behind you. The country has your back.” As they walked to their seats, Charles III paused and confided: “I have received so many wonderful messages and cards. I was in tears for the most part.”
Advantage for associations
The King and his Prime Minister also spoke of the spotlight that the country’s cancer associations have benefited from since his cancer announcement. “I have heard that there has been a lot more focus and interest in the great and wonderful cancer associations that I have been a patron of for years,” said Charles III. To which Richie Sunak replied that they were “doing an incredible job across the country.”
Less than 18 months after ascending the throne, Charles III began treatment in early February for “a form of cancer” that was no longer specified. It is known that the disease was discovered recently during an operation for benign prostatic hypertrophy. However, the 75-year-old sovereign does not suffer from prostate cancer.
