The Eurovision song selection was delayed at the EBU’s request to ensure it did not contain political references.
The current representative of Israel in Eurovision 2024, Eden Golan, is facing several problems. Ynet reported it.
In particular, some countries have announced a boycott of the war-related participant against Hamas. In turn, Ukrainians are unhappy with him because of his performances in the occupied Crimea and his long stay in Russia.
While auditioning for the show Hakochav Haba (Rising Star), Eden said that she was born in Israel, but as a child she moved with her family to Moscow and lived there for 13 years. They returned to their homeland two years ago after the start of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine.
Moreover, he has not publicly expressed a single position on Russia’s war against Ukraine, including condemning it.
Despite the controversy, the EBU said it rejected requests from countries to disqualify the artist. However, the first requests have already been made.
Israel’s representative song has not been selected due to further evaluations. The EBU wants to listen and approve the lyrics to make sure they don’t contain political references.
The check was allegedly not aimed at discrediting the contestant, but because of the broadcaster’s point of view, but the preparation was delayed.
“The professional procedure for the selection of the song is not over yet. The professional commission is debating between the two final songs. The decision will be made after listening to them performed by Eden Golan. The committee should meet on Saturday , and if so the EBU’s approval is received on the lyrics of the two songs, the decision can be ratified even,” the article said.
It was previously reported that 22-year-old Angelina Mango will represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
