Despite not being an immediate success at the box office, “Sleeping Beauty” was extremely acclaimed by specialized critics from the beginning — mainly for its soundtrack. This is because, unlike other animations, Aurora’s story did not feature super happy songs, but rather classical compositions inspired by the ballet of Tchaikovsky.

Even without having songs that are generally loved by children, the film was nominated for a Grammy in 1959 for “Best Film or TV Album”, and an Oscar in 1960 for “Best Soundtrack”.
