An anthropologist specializing in the ideas and practices of preserving and transforming the human body, Elizabeth Azoulay gives us her vision of the future of beauty.
after the publication of 100,000 years of beauty (2009), published by L’Oréal at Gallimard, editor-in-chief Elizabeth Azoulay is preparing a new volume. Interview:
Madame Figaro. – More news on the topic ?
Elizabeth Azoulay. – A lot has changed, including demographics, longevity, and social media. 15 years ago, we believed that the Internet would bring us closer together. Today, the geopolitical dimension is very different. More than 50% of us live in cities, watch the same soap operas, turn to the same images of beauty, and at the same time the world is increasingly closed by cultural, moral and political borders. Vocism presents differences as an immaterial reality, as if it is impossible to overcome them. As for longevity, we don’t really know at what pace it will develop, as we are torn between two extreme visions. On the one hand, transhumanists who see life into infinity, and on the other, an alarmist who heralds the end of the world.
How will we age in this world? ?
Never before have we had so many technological means to ward off the signs of aging. Of all things, Internet giants, the famous Gaffam, entered the game. A huge global market in sight. They come with their transhuman vision and striking power, their ideas grow every day. This raises new questions. If the age of death is constantly increasing and the signs of aging are disappearing, how can we maintain the balance between generations in the family and society? The more everything becomes possible in the field of age, the more resistance and women who say no. So nothing says that Gaffam’s dream will come true…

Will AI Help Us Get Younger? ?
The virtual one will be so similar to the real one that we won’t be able to tell them apart. We will appear with the possibility of being several. “Who am I ?” will become “How old am I?” It will touch on the very construction of personality. The growth of our capabilities is also evident. We will be more and more personalized. Some will be able to live better, but what if an expert system controls our body? It is the end of the individual as an inviolable being, with his autonomy and his privacy. Humanism will turn into dataism.
