DESCRIPTION – There is no magic recipe for happiness, and that’s a good thing. But psychological research has identified five main components of happiness. A look back at an important discovery that should be applied every day.
How to be happy? The question torments people mercilessly. Philosophy, psychology and neuroscience have provided their answers over time. Today, positive psychology, enriched by these contributions and new studies, is making it possible to identify invariants in the complex composition of happiness. In 2012, psychologist, psychological researcher and founder of positive psychology, Martin Seligman (1), highlighted them and brought together the English acronym PERMA: In other words: positive emotions, engagement, positive relationships, meaning and achievement. Happiness being dynamic, these components must be consciously stimulated and cultivated every day.
