Former dancer turned celebrity makeup artist Fred Marie has created a website, Beautiful after 50to help women look confident and feel attractive no matter their age.
She was the one who did the make-up of Filipina Leroy-Beaulieu for our Wonder Woman Cover Story, and she regularly beautifies Virginia Efira, Mélanie Laurent, Vanessa Paradis, Valerie Lemercier and many other actresses.
On his website fredmarin.fr he offers videos. beauty training, and even kobido massages for women 50 and older, whom she feels are treated unfairly. Her goal was to learn to accept her age with grace and pride. “We have the right to do everything if we feel comfortable. The goal is not to get younger at any cost, but to look brighter, to feel better about yourself.” Its key words are lightness and freshness. “Women always do too much,” she laments. No need for tons of products. Without forgetting the pleasure. Make-up should not be an additional constraint, but a game.” He doesn’t really like rules and regulations, but he agrees to give some advice anyway. To be continued…or not?
Lighten the complexion
“The secret, of course, is beautiful skin. I always take the time to massage my face with moisturizer before applying any makeup. Then I do almost the entire shade with a concealer, liquid or cream, in the color closest to the skin tone or very slightly lighter. It corrects everything: dark circles, the T-zone, the sides of the nose, minor redness. We apply it exactly where it is needed, to warm the material with our fingers and to feel the skin by tapping. Above all, don’t spread, don’t spread. Otherwise, I put the material on the back of my hand and touch it with a fine brush to put it in the right place, then I stir it with my finger.
Brighten the eyes
“To reduce the fine lines of crow’s feet, I apply concealer to the outer corner of the eye, blending it up to the cheekbones. This brightens the entire upper face. One drop is enough. I like Dior’s Face & Body Flash Perfector Concealer Backtage, but there’s also a really good one from Kiko. I sometimes mix the two to get the right shade. To open up the eye and give relief, I apply a light beige in the hollow of the banana and extend as far outwards as possible, almost to the temple, then come back under the eye, at the outer corner. Everything declines with age, so you always have to work your way up. And be careful not to over-emphasize the under-eye area, especially with dark shades. I prefer brown and bronze to black. The thicker the line, the lower the eye. To restore the consistency of the look, I apply the dark brown lashes with a small, stiff, flat brush, pushing it between the lashes to blend the line into the hair. MAC brushes are very good value for money. Another beneficial investment is the eyelash curler. A lot of women are afraid of it, but it’s magical.”
Women always go overboard, no need for tons of product
Fred Marin
Eyebrow styling
“They are very important. They should not be too round with age. You can extend them outward a bit, but sometimes you just need to brush them upwards to ‘lift’ your eyes.”
Fill the mouth
“You can get beautiful red lips at any age. For some, it’s even a signature, but lips become thinner over time. I prefer rosy beige, always flattering. I like to line my lips with a pinkish beige pencil and then top with a raspberry balm or gloss.
