How was BTS’s J-Hope discovered by BIGHIT Music?

3 hour audition? Find out how BTS’s J-Hope became a BIGHIT Music trainee before debuting as a member of the boy group

Did you know that the artistic career of J-Hope started before it even debuted on BTS? Like most of his groupmates, the idol already had contact with art, having dance as his passion and the driving force behind his career — so much so that he joined a dance team called “Neuron” in his hometown, Gwangju, South Korea, before becoming a trainee at BIGHIT Music.

How was J-Hope discovered by BigHit Music?

In fact, the person who found BIGHIT Music wasJ-Hope. That’s because, after auditioning for JYP Entertainment and being cut from the auditions after a few rounds, the idol decided to follow his dance teacher’s advice and look for a new entertainment company.

In this way, he came across BIGHIT Music (formerly known as Big Hit Entertainment), which at the time was looking for new trainees. But the process was not easy at all! According to an episode of Mnet’s TMI News, the audition for the agency worked as follows: the audition manager left J-Hope in a dance studio with nothing but a camera. Surprisingly, the idol danced for 3 hours straight and the rest is history!

Trainee period

As a result of becoming a full-time trainee at the agency in December 2010, the owner of the track “Arson” left his hometown to live in the capital of South Korea, Seoul, where he lived in dormitories provided by the company.

However, the work of J-Hope They weren’t limited to BTS. In 2018, the solo mixtape “Hope World” arrived on music streaming platforms with seven tracks. They are: “Hope World”, “POP (Piece Of Peace) Pt.1”, “Daydream (백일몽)”, “Base Line”, “항상 (HANGSANG) Feat. Supreme Boi”, “Airplane” and “Blue Side (Outro)”.
