Anna Wintour pokes fun at herself in The Unexpected Devil Wears Prada Parody

the editor-in-chief of Vogue: The American took the stage at the James Earl Theater on Broadway on January 10 alongside Anne Hathaway. His role? Somehow to himself.

The audience of the musical Gutenberg! played at the James Earl Theater, lucky for Wednesday night. The play tells the story of two best friends, young authors played by Josh Gad and Andrew Runnels, who dream of creating a major Broadway musical about Johannes Gutenberg. Each performance ends with the entrance of a celebrity who arrives as a “Broadway producer” to hand Gad and Runnels the contract for their musical about the inventor of the printing press. Buck Shields, Jake Gyllenhaal, Neil Patrick Harris… the stars follow one another after the September premiere. This time, Anne Hathaway and Anna Wintour took the stage.

The 74-year-old artistic director of Condé Nast Editions comes on stage and introduces himself as “a very famous Broadway producer” before pausing to address Anne Hathaway. “And here’s my help,” he adds. “Not yet,” replies a despondent Anne Hathaway, to cheers from the audience.

This is a reference to Anne Hathaway’s role in the film The Devil Wears Pradawas released in 2006. He played Andy Sachs, the slightly awkward and somewhat ignorant assistant to Miranda Priestly, who was the editor-in-chief of a major art magazine. RunwayThe latter, cold and almost inhumanly demanding, is played by Meryl Streep and directly inspired by Anna Wintour.

And if the editor-in-chief has always doubted the coincidence of their similarity, he likes to play on it. The two women were recently seen sitting next to each other at the Michael Kors Spring/Summer 2023 show, sparking a flurry of reactions on social media. The scene is therefore quite comical when we have seen a David Frankel film. “That’s it,” as Miranda Presley would say.
