How did BLACKPINK influence the new ‘Mean Girls’ scene?

“Mean Girls: The Musical” features a scene inspired by BLACKPINK, according to the film’s choreographer, Kyle Hanagami

Premiering on January 11, “Mean Girls: The Musical” arrived in theaters with a scene influenced by one of the biggest K-pop groups of all time: BLACKPINK!

The revelation was made by the film’s choreographer, Kyle Hanagamian interview on the red carpet, where he said that the iconic scene in which the film’s characters perform a Christmas song, had choreography inspired by the YG Entertainment girl group.

In this ocasion, Hanagamiwho choreographs performances by BLACKPINK more than four years ago (with the choreography for Kill This Love as one of his standout works), he revealed that, while developing the dance for the new film, he thought about the new generation that will watch the film, revealing that it is the same one that follows the training consisting of Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa It is Rosé.

Thus, given the fact that, like the group, the scene with Christmas music features four girls, he stated that there is also a bit of BLACKPINK in the film sequence, as well as other works that have relevance in the new generation of artists and actors.

I was like, ‘I feel like this is the generation that grew up watching BLACKPINK,’” Hanagami began explaining. “So when I was choreographing the Christmas dance, I thought, ‘Let’s put some BLACKPINK inspiration in there.’ So it’s definitely inspired by some of the work I’ve done for other artists just because I feel like it’s influenced this new generation of artists and actors.”

It is worth remembering that in the original version of “Mean Girls”, the characters dance to the sound of “Jingle Bell Rock”. The scene has become a pop culture icon, with allusions in films, music videos and various other artistic materials. Remember!

In fact, BLACKPINK themselves replicated the choreography of “Jingle Bell Rock” in a live performance during the group’s first Japanese tour “Arena Tour 2018, held at ‘Kyocera Dome Osaka’. Check it out!
