The diplomat considers it wrong that the Slovak prime minister explained the reason for the attack on Russia by the creation by Kiev of some kind of special “safe situation” for Russia due to Ukraine’s intention to join NATO. He recalled that at one time Slovakia also joined the Alliance, but not to threaten Russia, but for protection.
The diplomat added that Ukraine needs the help of partners, in particular Slovakia, because it is fighting for the security of all of Europe.
On January 10, Slovak Prime Minister Fico of the pro-Russian Smer party wrote a column for Pravda.
In it, he criticizes the West’s strategy to support Ukraine in the war with Russia and calls it “a complete failure.” In the article, he noted that the war in Ukraine is happening “under the total influence of the United States,” and Russia used military force, violating international law, in response to “the security situation and pressure from Ukraine to join NATO.”
According to him, the West allegedly did not allow the Ukrainians to conclude a truce on fair terms at the beginning of a full-scale war. And now Ukraine is “incapable of a significant military counteroffensive” and depends on financial assistance.
Fico also expressed a desire to normalize relations with Russia and said that he would not mind seeing Ukraine in the EU, but believes that Russia “also needs security guarantees.”
Let us recall that after Fico came to power in October 2023, Slovakia stopped providing military assistance to Ukraine.
