A costume expert said Marilyn Monroe’s cult dress from 1962 had “completely changed” and missed its “magic moment” after Kim Kardashian wore it to the Met Gala in May.
Kardashian and the owner of the dress, Ripley’s Believe It or Not, were targeted after recently posted photos revealed alleged damage to the dress.
To celebrate President John F. Kennedy’s 45th birthday, he wore a Monroe suit – a bare 2500 fabric sartorial rhinestone, on which he beautifully sang “Happy Birthday”.
Chadmike Morissette, a visual artist who regularly helps design and display the costume, said she noticed the damage during a recent visit to Ripley’s Believe It or Not in Los Angeles.
She later shared photos of what she noticed in the Marilyn Monroe collection.
“I know the dress very well, I’ve seen it many times, I’ve photographed it many times, I have a lot of photographic evidence of what’s different now,” Morissette, a Monroe fan, told HuffPost.
The dress was designed to fit Monroe’s body, she said.
According to the expert, the textures and panels of the garment are stretched until “blistered, torn” and “broken”.
There are also missing crystal beads, he said.
He said he wondered why he gave the co-chair of the Met Gala Anna Wintour and others at the Kardashian event that she wore the dress she says is the most expensive dress in the world.
HuffPost asked Kardashian, Matt Gala and Ripley for comment.
In 2016, Morissette said she curated an exhibit featuring thousands of Monroe’s personal items, including a dress, for Julien’s Auctions.
He said that in 2016 he designed and created a “museum” to show people the actor’s story “some like it hot”.
“I have to show this dress to the public and give it away with respect, dignity and admiration,” Morissette said.
Ripley bought the dress that night for $ 4.8 million.
Many internet users weigh in on the video of Kardashian wearing in front of the Met Gala and believe it is already proof of a “broken” dress. Reported by Buzzfeed News.
Morissette, however, is not concerned with this concern, saying Kardashian had already tried on this dress before filming in Calabasas.
