Before going to the cinema; find out who all the characters in “Wish” are!
Next Thursday, 4th, “Wish: The Power of Desires” opens in Brazilian cinemas. The film celebrates Disney’s 100 years of existence while introducing the studio’s new princess: Asha, the production’s main protagonist.
The film’s synopsis reads: “The new musical comedy “Wish,” from Walt Disney Animation Studios, invites audiences to the magical kingdom of Roses, where Asha, a perceptive idealist, fulfills a powerful wish granted by a cosmic force – a small ball of unlimited energy called Star. Together, Asha and Estrela face a formidable enemy – the ruler of Rosas, the Magnificent King – to save their community and prove that when the will of a brave human connects with the magic of the stars, wonderful things can happen.”
But besides Asha and Star, who are the characters in “Wish”? RECREIO has put together a list below of the main characters and everything you need to know about them. Check out!
ASHA
The character that guides the story is Asha, a fearless young woman who is willing to do anything to save her family and the community in which she lives. It comes to life through the voice of Ariana DeBoseactress who won the 2022 Oscar in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in “West Side Story”.
Asha is full of energy – an excited member of the community who proudly shows off the incredible place where she grew up. She is driven to do what is right by Rosas, which really happens when she discovers the king’s true plans for the wishes that are in his possession,” said Chris Buck, director of the film.
STAR

Star is the cosmic force that does not need to say a single word to transmit good energy. The character was designed to “bring together energy, hope and light in the simplest and purest form”, as revealed by Buck.
THE MAGNIFICENT KING

Ruling the kingdom of Rosas is King Magnificent, a character voiced by Chris Pine (“Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Rebels”). He has the power to decide when and which wishes of the population can come true, maintaining control over the entire community by giving hope that someday the desires of everyone’s hearts will be fulfilled — even if many of them are never chosen by him to become real.
VALENTINO

Voiced by Alan Tudyk (“Moana”), Valentino is the goat in pajamas who no matter where Asha is, he will be there too. Confident and not afraid to express what he thinks, Valentino teaches the importance of perseverance, as highlighted by the director Fawn Veerasunthorn.
It carries a big theme in this film. He loves climbing, but he’s not very good at it, he falls over and over again. But he refuses to feel discouraged, saying: ‘With every fall I learn. I will continue,'” said Veerasunthorn.
QUEEN AMAYA

Wife of King Magnificent, Queen Amaya has the voice of Angelique Cabral (“Undone”). The character is kind and dedicated to her husband, but she is not afraid to express her opinion and express her support for Asha when the girl reveals that she wants one of the most coveted roles in the kingdom: that of the king’s apprentice.
SABINO

Just like Disney, Sabino is a centenarian! Asha’s grandfather is 100 years old and even at his advanced age, he never stopped hoping for his wish to be fulfilled, teaching a lesson in hope and persistence. The character is given a voice through Victor Garber (“Family Law”) in the original dub of the feature film.
SAKINA

Asha’s mother is Sakina, a loving woman who worries about her daughter’s vigilante spirit, as it challenges the Magnificent King. Furthermore, she is a seamstress and was the one who produced Valentino’s pajamas. Natasha Rothwell (“The White Lotus”) voices the character.
THE TEENS

Dahlia, Gabo, Hal, Simon, Safi, Dario and Bazeema are the teenagers who support Asha no matter what happens. The characters carry a very important symbol for Disney history, as they are inspired by the Seven Dwarfs, as revealed by the screenwriter Allison Moore.
Each one is inspired by a dwarf — they have the same color palette and share one or two of the same personality traits,” Moore explained.
DAHLIA

Inspired by Doc (Master, in Portuguese), Dahlia is Asha’s best friend. Voiced by Jennifer Kumiyama (“The Sessions”), the character is a great baker and uses her talent with sweets to create her own magic.
GABO

Harvey Guillén (“Puss in Boots 2: The Last Order”) gives the voice of Gabo, a character who has the same initial as Grumpy (Grumpy, in Portuguese) and a similar personality, as he has a cynical streak, even though he is very smart and has a good heart.
HAL

Hal is the friend who always chooses to see the good in every situation. Voiced by Niko Vargasthe girl is inspired by Happy (Happy, in Portuguese).
SIMON

The big, muscular Simon gains his voice by dubbing EvenPeters (“Dahmer”). Inspired by Sleepy (Soneca, in Portuguese), he is always sleepy, which makes his desire to be a warrior a little more difficult to come true.
SAFI

Always sniffling, Safi is the character inspired by Sneezy (Atchim, in Portuguese). He is constantly seen with a red nose and sneezing, as he suffers from several allergies. Safi is voiced by Rami Youssef (“Poor Creatures”).
DARIO

Dario lives in his own world, but when he connects with reality, he always says something brilliant. Jon Rudnitsky (“De Volta para Casa”) is the one who brings to life the character inspired by Dopey (Dopey, in Portuguese).
BAZEEMA

Somewhat shy, Bazeema is surprising whenever she approaches to help. The character is inspired by Bashful (Dengoso, in Portuguese) and is dubbed by Della Saba (“Physical”).
