Yohana de Santana, the first patient to undergo surgery through the SUS in Bahia, reported her experience
Yohana de Santana She was the first Bahian patient to undergo sexual reassignment surgery through the Unified Health System (SUS).
On August 9, 2023, the dancer and dance teacher underwent the procedure at the Professor Edgard Santos University Hospital (Hupes), at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA).
Four months after the operation, Yohana reported details of how the surgery recovery went.
“It’s incredibly natural. For me, it’s so natural that I don’t see it as an adaptation, it feels like I was born with this genitalia. It’s as if I was born like this”said in an interview with Agência Brasil.
Yohana confessed that she sees this process as a correction and not a change.
“Within this correction, for me it is this naturalness both physically and psychologically. This is how I see myself, how I face my reality in life”, he spoke.
