What does Santa look like when he writes a “Me Too” note? For several hundred years, this figure has symbolized benevolence as well as generosity, but has not (yet) been at the forefront of contemporary societal issues. But the Santa present at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Miami this Monday, December 11, disagreed with this reading. He made it a point to compliment 3-year-old Andlee Love after she refused to sit on his lap;

The magic happened through a video shared on TikTok by Katie Love, the mother of a little girl named baby Endley, which quickly went viral. In the pictures, we see a child pose for a traditional photo with Santa Claus while refusing to sit on the lap of a man with a white beard and a red suit. And the latter explains that not wanting is completely respectable. “I asked her if she wanted to sit on my lap and she said no, and I said she’s a beautiful way to defend herself and say whatever you believe is true,” she says.
To the British newspaper’s question The Independent On Tuesday, December 19, the mother was delighted with her daughter’s reaction. “I was so proud of him. Kids have so little control over their lives and Adly is in control,” she explains, before elaborating. “We can celebrate the joy of Christmas and Santa without making them feel like they have to sit on a strange person’s lap, get presents; [Elle] You don’t have to be uncomfortable to make someone else feel comfortable. The video, which has been viewed more than 2 million times, perfectly personifies the concept of consent, starting at a very young age.
