Arriving at the catalog Disney+ this Wednesday, 20th, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is the most recent adaptation of the literary series written by Rick Riordan. The plot follows the title character of the story discovering that he is a demigod. Remember the trailer!
In the end, Percy (Walker Scobell) is the son of one of the Olympian gods: Poseidon (Toby Stephens). In addition to the Greek god of seas and rivers, Athena, mother of the demigod Annabeth Chase (Leah Jeffries), character who, alongside Jackson and Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri), forms the main trio of the saga, is also mentioned in the plot.
Still, during the five books of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians”, Percy meets 10 more deities, who will also be represented in the series. They are: Zeus (Lance Reddick), Hades (Jay Duplass), Dionysus (Jason Mantzoukas), Ares (Adam Copeland), Hermes (Lin Manuel-Miranda), Hephaestus (Timothy Osmundson), Chiron (Glynn Turman), The Fury Alecto (Megan Mullally), Echidna (Suzanne Crier) and Medusa (JJessica Parker Kennedy).
In the story, all 12 deities that emerged through Greek mythology play important roles in Percy’s trajectory, in addition to being a reference for their great powers. So much so, that in a press conference held on December 4, the actors who give life to the three main characters of the series, together with the executive producer, Dan Shotz and the co-creator, Jonathan E. Steinbergwere asked which of these gods they would like to be.
Straight away, Aryan It is Walker gave the same answer: Hermes, the god of commerce, diplomacy and wealth, responsible for defending travelers, thieves and traders, as well as being the messenger of the gods of Mount Olympus and the one who takes the souls of the dead to the underworld.
Hermes for me because he can fly”, said Grover’s interpreter. “Hermes is a good answer. I think I would choose Hermes too”, added Scobell.
Right after, Leah revealed that he would choose the Greek goddess of wisdom, arts, intelligence, war and justice and also the mother of his character, Athena. The actress also revealed that she could be Zeus, as she could control anything.
I would definitely choose Athena, who is my mother, because I want to be her haha. But yeah, either Athena or Zeus because I would have control of everything”, said Leah.
Shotz chose the god of fire, metals and metallurgy in Greek mythology, that is, Hephaestus. “I would go with Hephaestus, because I’m not really good at fixing things, and that would be a great skill to have.”
Finally, Steinberg, said he would be the god of the sky and thunder, also known as the king of the gods: Zeus. “I’m with Leah, Zeus seems like a good choice,” he concluded.
