For his first film role Silver VenusBy Helena Klotz, the musician is transformed into a young merchant, a role in which she displays as much strength as fragility. An actress is born.
From Apple, we know smooth sound, songs, 1eh in December he released the Autumn/Winter section of the atmospheric diptych, Seasons, which mixes the crackle of a wood fire with the warmth of violins. But also her commitment to issues of mental health and violence against women. We find him today in a lead role where he lives with few words but with great power. In Silver VenusHelena Klotz, in theaters November 22 Claire Pommen (her real name) is Jeanne, a young woman who decides to leave her father’s cramped gendarmerie barracks to invest in big financial spaces. Not for the love of luxury or power, but to stand on one’s own feet in the higher realms, which nevertheless contain their share of violence. What must we sacrifice and protect to gain our freedom? A question that lies at the heart of the film and echoes the struggle of its interpreter. Meeting.

Metamorphosis
Madame Figaro: What attracted you to this film and this character?
Apple. It’s a combination of circumstances. I wanted to make films when I was a child, and I rediscovered this desire during the arrest, for fear, I think, of not doing any more concerts because of the epidemic. I had castings for supporting roles, projects that didn’t materialize. When I read the script for Helena, it was the first role. was a bit scary as an introduction. But I liked the fact that it touches on important social issues that affect me personally. And I really identified with Zhanna’s character.
How is he like you?
Already by the simple fact of moving up the ranks in a professional environment and therefore facing mostly men. I could easily identify with this trajectory of a very ambitious young woman forced to embrace the codes of masculinity and erase her gender in order to transcend her social class, her age, and her past.
Jeanne shaves her head, wears gray suits… More than masculinization, she “neutralizes” herself. How did you have to transform yourself to break into the music industry?
I have lived with anorexia for many years. it is literally the definition of self-neutralizing, self-diminishing. The difference between Jeanne and I is that in finance, even if looks are important, we don’t sell our image, whereas I spent my youth selling my physical appearance. It was devastating because I was being photographed all the time. As a teenager, I was much more “feminine”, had long hair, wore lipstick. Then I almost became masculine because I didn’t want people to look at me anymore. I hid my body in baggy clothes like many young girls. Or like Jeanne, whose dresses are like armor. Even if she has more confidence in herself than I did at the same age.

Ugly duckling
He also occupies a special position in his family, who do not always understand him…
Yes, there is this idea of being the ugly duckling and having all the responsibilities in the world at the same time. When it suits the environment, she takes care of the house, assumes the role of a mother. And at the same time, his father advises him to change his career or questions his dressing. I had a bit of this role in my family, which was quite strict. I was often ordered to be called. Like Zhanna, wanting to leave this environment at any cost was a cry from the heart, a necessity.
So you went to Quebec for a few years? Is your relationship with your family smoother?
Yes, because we’re all adults now. In the film, Zhanna is 24 years old, but sometimes she seems to remain a teenager. I left so young, at 17, that I didn’t really have a parent/teen relationship. It was like they knew me directly as an adult.
Before the film, what inspired you about the world of finance?
I have a younger brother who is 23 years old who wants to do this business, that was my first contact with this environment. I saw how much he invested and gradually entered a world. For the film, we met many young traders in London who explained to us that they were all in skirts and heels; codes that are the opposite of the movie where Helena wanted Jeanne to stand out. We also saw experienced traders who explained to me some very technical, fascinating, but hard-to-learn vocabulary items. It’s an environment that doesn’t really inspire me, even though in music I obviously have to manage money and budget every day.

Strong emotions
Has success changed your relationship with money?
I do not believe. Ever since I left my parents, I have always had high ambitions and a desire to be financially independent. The tricky and sometimes a bit unhealthy part is that the money maker talks about my personal life. In finance, we are talking about calculations and algorithms. In music, you have to use your emotions in songs, make money with them for 4 years, then capitalize on other emotions. It’s very special.
Zhanna lives a story with a young gendarme, who is played by Nils Schneider. We know they had sex, which she perceived as assault. However, they reconnect during the film…
This is part of the conversations with Helena. if i find a lover who assaulted me i don’t know if sleeping with him is the first thing i want to do. He understood, but asked me if I sometimes had a desire to restore the history of some stories. In the film, the character of Nils listens to Zhanna, shows compassion, questions himself. They can then rebuild the bonds of trust. Helena wanted to suggest this trajectory, because the idea of being a victim or a murderer for the rest of your life is not satisfactory to anyone. This is perhaps a bit utopian. But this is also what we would like to experience.
