Sophie Galabru, philosopher. “Men who understand women best are those who have seen their mothers or sisters in trouble.”

INTERVIEW – Associate Professor and Doctor of Philosophy Sophie Galabru publishes Make a family. Philosophy of links. And it stops with us on the one that most unites men to their mother.

Madame Figaro: Where did this desire to focus on this huge topic of family come from? ?
Sophie Galabru. – Just like in my previous book (The Face of Our Rage, ed. Flammarion, 2022, Editor’s note), it’s a subject I’ve been passionate about since childhood. From a very young age, I was able to see how complicated family life can be, sometimes conflicting, sometimes frustrating, compared to what a child can expect. This question stayed with me. I returned to it with the desire to analyze, to mature, perhaps also to find it and return to my first hopes.

At a time when there is a profound rethinking of how men treat women, the values passed down by the mother seem to be important… Another way of saying that the intimate is political. ?
This is a question that worries me. Being a feminist woman today doesn’t just mean being alert and attentive to the behavior of men in your professional and family environment, etc.
