Even with the in-person ceremony cancelled, the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) still announced all the winners of the 2023 edition through its official website — and two big K-pop stars are expected to receive the statuettes at home.
Jungkooka member of BTS, was awarded in two categories: Best Song and Best K-Pop for his hit “Seven” (feat. Latto), while the award for Best Push Artist went to TOMORROW X TOGETHER. You can check out the full list of winners by clicking here!
Cancellation
It is worth remembering that EMA 2023 was canceled last month due to security concerns, related to the conflict situation in the region and threats of terrorist attacks across Europe. The awards ceremony was scheduled to take place yesterday, November 5th, at Paris Nord Villepinte, in Paris.
Through a statement (via Gshow), MTV stated that the time is not ripe for celebration, but rather for mourning in the face of the thousands of lives lost. Check out the full note:
“Given the volatility of world events, we decided not to go ahead with the MTV EMA 2023 as a precaution for the thousands of employees, team members, artists, fans and partners who travel from all corners of the world to host this show.
The MTV EMA is a global celebration of music held annually, but as we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not feel like a time for global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a time of mourning.
We hope to return again with the MTV EMA in November 2024.”
