German expectations are very high. The clear majority of them want a clearly stricter migration policy,” Hermann Binker, head of the INSA public opinion research institute.
According to the survey results, a clear majority (63%) wants more consistent deportation practices, with 32% even supporting deportations back to crisis areas. 49% of respondents also favor strengthening border controls at all external borders of Germany and 47% introducing a quantitative upper limit for asylum seekers. 50% of respondents are in favor of speeding up the asylum procedure.
30% of respondents support the idea of creating asylum centers in Africa. The advantage of this approach is that the procedures will take place outside the EU, and rejected asylum seekers will not be able to enter the country and remain illegally.
At the meeting of the Chancellor with the prime ministers of the federal states of Germany, controversial issues of the resolution regarding the future of Germany’s migration policy will be discussed. In particular, we will talk about the ratio in which federal and regional authorities should take on the financing of refugees. The introduction of a payment card instead of assistance is also on the agenda – this measure is supported by 55% of German residents surveyed by INSA.
