Chip Berg, general manager of Levi Strauss & Co., recommends wearing denim in the shower rather than washing it. Nice soap please.
THE: Blue Jean James Dean is no longer famous. it actually takes no less than 7,000 liters of water to make one pair of jeans. According to a recent report from research platform Stylight, nearly 2.3 billion pairs of jeans are sold worldwide each year, or 73 per second. Solutions are proposed to slow down the pace. Wash them less, use vintage… Or follow the example of Levi’s CEO Chip Berg, who advises to “keep your jeans in the shower.”
“Cover him with soap”
At the beginning of October, Chip Berg, a guest of the American CNBC channel, explained that, according to him, consumers wash their jeans too often. To reduce the use of washing machines, which use a lot of water, the boss invites you to wear your jeans in the shower and “soap it like you were your body”. In 2014, however, he urged his customers not to wash their jeans at all. And to clarify his words later. “I never said you shouldn’t wash your jeans, but the real connoisseurs will tell you never to put your jeans in the washing machine.”
So, soaping your jeans is a ready-made solution to making household appliances run less and reducing their impact on the environment. However, the Engie website states that a wash cycle is equivalent to 50 liters of water. Consequences, of course, but much less than the water required to produce jeans. Shouldn’t we work less than that instead of washing ourselves completely in clothes?
