Madame Figaro .- What is your definition of beauty?
Charlie D’Amelio. Beauty is very subjective from one person to another. I think there is beauty everywhere. It reminds me of my friends and family, all the people I love, my dogs too. I think my sister and mother are the most beautiful people in the world. Seeing beauty in every person is the very definition of beauty.

Best beauty advice you’ve ever been given.
Very early on, my mom gave me the best basic advice on how to properly remove makeup and cleanse my skin. My dad is also into skin care and I’ve always loved that about him. He has always been a fan of face masks. There are photos of us when I must have been 8 years old, where we both wear masks over our faces. That says a lot about how we grew up.

If I can help someone feel better about themselves by showing me what mine is like, that’s good enough for me.

Charlie D’Amelio

You’ve been open about your acne problems, even posting photos of your pimples on social media without filters or retouching. Why such a desire for authenticity on platforms where internet users can sometimes be ruthless?
I particularly remember a tweet from someone older than me who said that if the people she followed when she was younger showed her photos like this, it would help her feel better about her skin. It made me realize that many people don’t talk about their acne problems. And if they do, take it with a grain of salt… Which seems very strange to me because there are so many people fighting against this. Beyond all the negativity, if I can help someone feel better about themselves by showing them what mine is like, that’s enough for me.

Whom do you turn to in order to increase your self-confidence?
I would say Bebe Rexa [une chanteuse américaine, NDLR]. He is one of the most incredible people I know. I was with him yesterday and after just one conversation I felt a million times more confident. There is something about him that is so warm and comforting. I think she exudes joy and confidence.

You can’t tell your skin to be flawless…so don’t worry if it’s perfect or not.

Charlie D’Amelio

Your advice is to learn to deal with your skin problems.
Back to school is always a big time of change, your body changes. You also change as a person. You can’t tell your skin to be flawless…so don’t worry if it’s perfect or not. As long as you do what you need to do to take care of it, clean it, moisturize it. Tell yourself that everyone feels the same way.

What do you think of the French beauty routine?
I find the makeup style of French women very beautiful. It’s very minimalistic, but I think it’s a real bias and I love it.

What is your beauty routine?
An eye makeup remover if I’ve worn too much makeup during the day. Morning and night I cleanse my skin with CeraVe Foam Cleanser, it’s my all time favorite product. I also apply the brand’s moisturizing lotion all over my body, it’s my favorite thing to do before bed. In general, I like to keep my beauty routine as simple as possible, especially when I travel, but I always pack an anti-pimple treatment if I have an acne breakout, such as a serum or gel. Depending on the weather, my travels and sleep, I use an eye patch in case of puffiness or allergies.
