The agency responsible for BTS reported that it has taken some legal measures against violating the rights of the group’s members
This Wednesday, the 27th, BIGHIT MUSIC shared updates on the legal proceedings involving violation of BTS’s rights. The company released the following statements on Weverse (via Soompi):
Hello. This is BIGHIT MUSIC
Our company regularly initiates legal proceedings against perpetrators of malicious activities related to BTS, including defamation, personal attacks, sexual harassment, dissemination of unfounded information, and malicious criticism. We would like to provide an update on these important activities.
During this quarter, we filed several criminal complaints with law enforcement agencies based on evidence related to acts that infringe on artists’ rights, including defamation, submitted by our fans, as well as collected through our own monitoring.
In particular, we have gathered ongoing evidence about individuals who repeatedly sent emails and packages to artists’ homes, even causing harm to artists’ families, and have filed criminal complaints against them on charges of violating stalking crimes laws (Law of Punishment of the Crime of Persecution). The court issued a temporary restraining order and a prosecutor’s investigation is ongoing. We remain committed to a binding zero-tolerance policy when dealing with stalking crimes that infringe on the privacy and safety of our artists.
A decision was made in the second quarter of 2022 declaring no prosecution and halting investigations against some of the suspects, and we have raised objections and requested a new investigation of these cases. As a result, through prosecution referrals, the suspects were ultimately found guilty of personal attacks and defamation against the artists, and legal penalties were imposed.
Furthermore, among the defendants in this round of legal actions was an individual who repeatedly posted violent and offensive abusive comments in the news sections of the portal website. This individual was regularly involved in dozens of cases of high-intensity malicious comments on various articles. We compile all verified comments and file criminal charges against the individual.
BIGHIT MUSIC regularly collects information about malicious posts about BTS, reports them to authorities and takes legal action. We would like to inform you that we are taking strong action against malicious posts related to all members, including members who are currently doing their military service.
Our company is committed to continued efforts to eliminate illegal activities against our artists, even if it takes time. We will continue to adhere to strict measures and our no-deal, no-clemency policy to hold suspects accountable.
We ask that our fans continue to use our legal hotline (protect@bighitmusic.co.kr) to report any instances of abuse.
We are always grateful for the affection and dedication shown by BTS fans. BIGHIT MUSIC will continue to work to ensure that our artists’ rights are fully protected.
